How to Make Steamed Buns

Steamed buns are delicious, Rea-LLy delicious.  When Molly’s cousin Corey and his girlfriend Terumi were out here this winter they showed us how to make steamed buns.  Molly’s sister Lise was visiting too and she got in on the action.  Molly shot a great video tutorial of Lise and Corey on how to make steamed buns.  We’ve got it down below after the recipes.  Don’t miss it.  It’s hilarious.

The Decline of the Yurt

About five years ago we bought a Mongolian yurt  (real Mongolians would call it a ger but you’d have no idea what we were talking about).  It was a very cool guesthouse and people loved staying in it.  The inside was decorated with a (tasteful) mish-mash of eastern furnishings.  Pakistani lamps, asian rugs, furniture from China and Thai silk pillows all complemented the traditional painting on the interior woodwork .  It was our little exotic hideaway but like all treasures it started to tarnish over time. » » »

Momofuku

This summer we went to the East Coast to visit family for a couple of weeks.  It had been two years since our last visit so we tried to pack in as much adventure as possible.  We went to DC Cupcakes, the Delaware river, the Jersey shore, the public swimming pool in Central Park and Momofuku’s Noodle Bar.

We love to eat and Mike loves to cook.  We’ve been vicariously following David Chang’s (owner of the Momofuku empire) career through the New Yorker and his cookbook.  When some friends heard we were going to New York City they surprised us with a gift certificate to any of the Momofuku restaurants!

Molly:  I squealed like a little girl when they gave us this oh so amazing gift!  I think I scared them a bit…

Mike:  Honey, don’t worry, it’s my job to walk behind you and assure people you aren’t harmful. » » »

Vacation Dreamin’

I wrote this about two months ago while we were on vacation.

It’s a record-breaking 102 degrees here in Philadelphia.  Michael and the kids went off to the Jersey shore with friends.  I stayed behind so they could take the smaller car that has air-conditioning.  Really I’m just not a beach kinda girl.  Also, I mistakenly brought a bathing suit that sags in my bum area- after spending yesterday afternoon on the river the kids are so over witnessing my saggin’ sack.   » » »

Burning Old Man Gloom

Here in Santa Fe we have a very unique way of kicking off our annual fiestas.  Half the town and a bunch of  tourists, about 20,000 – 30,000 people in all, gather onto a baseball field to watch a fifty foot marionette burn.  That’s what we do for fun in Santa Fe, we all get together to burn a giant puppet- BURN BABY!  BURN!!
