Show and Tell @ Mike and Molly’s House | Vacations and Cabins

In New Mexico the kids get out of school really early- the week before Memorial day weekend.  Most years there is still a nip in the morning air.  Mike and I spent the last few days tightening down our family vacation plans along with the girls’ semi-complex schedules with their other parents.  Sharing the girls with two other sets of parents plus all the grandparents/step-grandparents can get complicated over the summer!  Our next thoughts led us to gardening projects, which we worked on all weekend.

The physical work seems to get us going.  The next thing I knew Mike was building a tool shed in the back and we were both dreaming of building a guest rental cabin on our property.  Inspiration is only ever a few clicks away on the computer. Coincidentally Mike came across this post on The Improvised Life last week that got our brain cells broiling…

cabin05

It was a picture form a site called Cabin Porn of a beautiful cabin in the Netherlands.

Mike: We’re both suckers for a cute cabin.

Molly: It was almost too much having an almost endless stream of little houses in beautiful places to peruse.

Because we’re big hearted people we’ll spare you the difficulty of scrolling through 39 pages of cabin porn (we’ll feel dirty for you) but we did have to share a few of our faves…

Show and Tell Time!

“Sometimes you’re cruising along through life and you see someone else doing something so appropriate that it makes you pause and rethink things. I’m not talking about suddenly changing religions or switching from being a carnivore to a vegan but more like you just got a gentle nudge that may send you off in an unexpected direction.”- Mike

Show and Tell is a swap meet for ideas and projects where the currency is inspiration.  Every week we kick things off with some of our favorite ideas that we just came across or highlight an idea we got from one of you!

This is a community effort however and we want you to get in on it.  If you’re a blogger link up to one of your posts.  It doesn’t have to be new (we’re all about recycling here) just something that you think is kick-ass.

Not a blogger?  Don’t have a post to link up?  Don’t despair!   We want to hear from you too.  First option is to post in the comments; you can even add an image or two.  Too big for the comments? Contact us with your idea and if it fits we will ask you to write up something that will appear at the beginning of a future Show and Tell.

So what are we looking for?

We think Sally Schneider nailed it with her manifesto over at The Improvised Life:

Improvising is a powerful operating system.

You don’t need to be an expert to improvise.

Improvising is a practice like yoga or cooking; the more we do it the better we get at it.

Creativity can be cultivated.  We can learn what we don’t know.

We believe in asking “why not?’ when we have an interesting idea and then trying out our idea.

We can be afraid of doing something and do it anyway.

Making mistakes is the way we learn.  Perfection is over-rated.

Mistakes are often paths to unexpected discoveries [solutions]

Constraints – whether money, space, time or materials – don’t limit, they expand.

Making a mess is an essential part of improvising.

Improvising is an antidote to “I can’t.”

Improvising guides you to the solutions you are looking for.

Improvising is a path full of richness and discovery.

We want to celebrate creativity, resourcefulness and inspiration in all mediums whether it’s making, baking, growing or living.  What did you make this past week/month/year?  We want to see your wonderful results!

If you are new to a link-up party or blog hop, it is very easy to join in the fun! Scroll to the bottom of the thumbnail links.  There you will see a small box that will says ‘Your link here’. When you click on that link, you will be asked to enter the URL of your article, the name of the article (not your name) and your email address (it’s not published!).

  • Please link to your article only and not directly to your blog’s front page.
  • Place a link back on that article to the Show and Tell page, which means adding in the URL of this Show and Tell post which you can copy from your browser address bar and insert where you like. You could also choose to place a Show and Tell badge into your post or on your blog’s sidebar.

Visit some of the other links and leave a comment!

If you’d like to add our Show and Tell badge

How many outbuildings are you up to now?  I think step 1 of those 12 step programs is admitting you have a problem.  Actually, I would love for you to channel your energies towards my mom’s chicken coop.  Too bad  you’re at least 2000 miles away.

I would love to build a rockin tree house someday. Tree houses are super awesome.  For now, I guess I’ll just save the dough for that house with land.

What problem?  I’m building an abandoned summer camp. Empty little buildings everywhere!  Every time I see a collection of small buildings I get the itch to start a new one.  If we had trees that would support a house there would be tree houses too.

How do I have any sense of a chance with a mate like Mike!!
When Mike showed me this cabin site I googled ‘treehouse porn’! Yeah, there’s a site!   I would love to have an uber-duber treehouse one day.

@JoyofCaking:disqus Looks like your travel trailer is going to be a great restoration!  Molly & I have talked on and off about some sort of camper project.  We’ll be looking forward to seeing how yours progresses.
